In our area, people will knock on your door and claim to know how to prune a tree. They will give you a "great price" and turn your tree into a giant shrub with a pair of hedge shears and a chainsaw.
Please do not allow this to happen to you as this is called topping or rounding-over.If this unfortunate event has happened to you, our ISA Certified Arborist can help. We can turn your giant shrub back into a tree using a technique called restoration pruning.
Believe it or not, most trees do not require professional services on an annual basis.
Annual pruning's are usually for production trees (fruit/nut), special projects, or possibly corrective/restoration pruning.
Normally, young trees should be pruned every 2-3 years and mature trees every 3-5 years.
Another problem in our area is a technique called Lions-tailing.
This tree fell victim to the "experts" with a bucket truck, cutting as high as the bucket could go.
This tree was deemed hazardous and was ultimately removed.
If you have a mature tree, contact us for a consult. We have the skill and ability to help.
This Live oak was previously lions-tailed. We assessed the tree and developed a long-term plan to restore and balance the canopy.
We removed approximately 20,000 lbs of weight out of the canopy in all directions. This Live Oak is now set for retrenchment of the canopy.
